The Control Type is used by characters who have more stability and control hitting the tennis balls and how far they go out on the court. They also have a tendency to not fall to the ground when hitting the ball, unlike most other characters.
Control Type characters are also more likely to preform successful Drop Hits, and can hit the ball at great distance, much like Power Types.
