ToeJam & Earl is an action roguelike video game. It was published by Sega and was developed by Johnson Voorsanger Productions.[1]
It was released on October 15, 1991 in North America, in November 1991 in Europe, and on March 13, 1992 in Japan. The game was released on the Sega Genesis.[2][3][4] The game would later be released in December 2006 for the Wii's Virtual Console, on November 2012 for both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, and on December 16, 2021 for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.[5][6][7]
The game had low sales but later became a sleeper hit.[8]
The game is about two alien rappers named ToeJam and Earl. The player controls the two as they adventure through randomly generated levels to try and find pieces of their broken spaceship which was destroyed after they crashed on Earth so they can escape.[9]
A sequel titled ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron was released on December 1993.
Reception
The game recieved positive reviews by game critics. Critics said that they liked the graphics, humor, music and that they had fun playing the game. However, critics also felt that the combat was slow and it was too easy.[10][11][12]
