Megaton-Hammer

Artwork.

The Megaton Hammer is a weapon in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Forged by the Gorons of Death Mountain in ancient times, it was originally the weapon of a legendary Goron hero, the ancestor of the Gorons current chieftain, Darunia. Using this mighty hammer, the hero slew the Goron-eating dragon Volvagia and cast its bones into the fires of Death Mountain, saving his tribe. Link can find it in the Fire Temple. The Megaton Hammer has various uses, including the following:

  • Is capable of breaking red rocks.
  • Can smash down rusty switches that otherwise would stay in place.
  • Is needed in order to defeat Volvagia.
  • Can turn certain enemies on their backs.
  • Will cause blocks to fall down to another level when hit.
  • Is the most commonly used weapons against Dark Link in the Water Temple.
  • Can easily defeat standard enemies.

The downside of defeating regular enemies is its speed - which is dramatically lowered compared to Link's sword. Because of the Megaton Hammer's weight Young Link isn't strong enough to wield it and even Adult Link requires a two-handed grip, disabling his shield while the hammer is out.

Other Appearances[]

The Megaton Hammer also appears in the GameCube version of Soul Calibur II, as one of Link's unlockable weapons. It lacks the range of Link's swords but does more damage with each swing.

The Megaton Hammer appears in Hyrule Warriors as Darunia's level 3 hammer.
