Flight of the Intruder is an military flight simulator set during the Vietnam War, released as a tie in to the 1991 movie and book of the same name, developed by Rowan Software and published by Spectrum HoloByte. It was realesed in 1990 for PC, Amiga and Atari ST. And it was ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991 with Imagineering as the developer and Mindscape as the publisher.
Setting[]
The game is set in Vietnam during Operation Linebacker in 1972 Flight of the Intruder allows the player to pilot the F-4 Phantom II and A-6 Intruder through 13 campaign missions or take on the role of Air Group Commander with the ability to create (and Fly) their own missions. The missions are conducted along with 7 AI wing characters (4 for each aircraft type), and the player can switch between planes as desired, as well as pick their loads in a briefing before the mission.
Gameplay[]
The missions are run together with a maximum of seven AI wing men (4 of each type of aircraft) and the player can switch between planes as desired and select their loads in the pre-mission briefing. In difficult games the difficulty levels the player should worry about the reliability of the plane and its weapons: the F-4 would not have an internal cannon and would have to rely on warp and guided radar guides who were inclined to Combustion fire, as well as an engine that creates a visible smoke path that warns the enemies. On the harder difficulty the player will also have to follow the rules of the assignment. There were, as usual for flight simulators at the time, several levels of difficulty and an easily accessible makeup menu that would allow the player to make the plane invincible or have unlimited ammunition.
