Bellator’s return to Connecticut this summer has another fight added to the lineup.

Gavin Sterritt (6-1 MMA, 2-0 BMMA) is set to take on Connecticut native Brennan Ward (10-3 MMA, 6-3 BMMA) in a welterweight bout at Bellator 140. Promotion officials announced the new bout today.

The matchup will open the main card on July 17 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The main card airs on Spike TV following prelims on MMAjunkie.

Ward got back in the win column in February with a submission of Curtis Millender at Bellator 134, the “British Invasion” card, which also took place at Mohegan Sun. The rear-naked choke victory, which came in 97 seconds snapped a two-fight skid of stoppage losses for Ward, who fell to Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 114 by submission and Tamdan McCrory at Bellator 123 by knockout. Prior to that, he had four straight wins under the Bellator banner.

Sterritt, from England, lost his pro debut in 2008, but since then has won six straight fights. Five of those wins have come by stoppage, including four submissions. After a couple years on the sidelines, Sterritt returned to work in 2013 and made his Bellator debut, getting a split-decision win over Andy Murad. In March 2014, he submitted Mike Estus at Bellator 114. But he’s been out of action since then.

The latest Bellator 140 card now includes:

  • Douglas Lima vs. Andrey Koreshkov  – For the Bellator welterweight championship
  • Chris Honeycutt vs. Paul Bradley
  • Michael Page vs. Rudy Bears
  • Gavin Sterritt vs. Brennan Ward
