Titel in other languages

edit

Eg. in German or Spanish this item is titled "English Language" ("Englische Sprache", "Idioma inglés"). If this item is linked to other item (eg. native language), it seems obvious that the item is a language. Do we want to change the name of this item to "Engish" in all languages or how is the way to go? -- Faux (talk) 23:16, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Just rename labels. --Stryn (talk) 10:07, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Agree. --Kronf (talk) 10:12, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Properties

edit

Why can't I delete redundant (duplicate, unadequate) properties like "is Q26721" and "family = Q1346342"? Infovarius (talk) 09:07, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Update Statistics

edit

The native speaker statistics are woefully out-of-date. Can someone unlock this or give me access so I can update it?

Language with 470,000 words (despite not using the nominative case unlike other languages that claim to have more words)

edit

Hi, I'd like to point out somewhere that English has 470,000 words. Could I please point it out somewhere? - 2600:1702:31B0:9CE0:88D2:6234:431D:51F0 19:22, 17 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

It depends on what is "word". Up to million lemmas. --Infovarius (talk) 20:16, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Language with the most speakers as a second language

edit

Hi, I'd like to point out that English is the language with the most speakers as a second language. Could I please point it out somewhere? - 2600:1702:31B0:9CE0:88D2:6234:431D:51F0 19:25, 17 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

There is. --Infovarius (talk) 20:16, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Fastest-growing language in the world

edit

Hi, I'd like to point out that English is the fastest-growing language in the world. Could I please point it out somewhere? Is this not sufficiently poetic? Would you like prose? - 2600:1702:31B0:9CE0:88D2:6234:431D:51F0 19:26, 17 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean by "growth"? Increase of native or second-language speakers? Absolutely or in percent? --Infovarius (talk) 20:16, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Shavian alphabet

edit

I've deleted the reference to the Shavian alphabet. That was only a proposal, there existed maybe dozens of such. --Симуран (talk) 20:31, 27 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Jamaican Creole

edit

Hi all. How can I go about providing an updated description for English in the Jamaican Creole field? Please ping me if you reply. All the best. -- Dentonius (talk) 08:28, 8 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Dentonius: Click the "In more languages" link near the description, and it will expand, then clock "All entered languages" to see the full list.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:27, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
