Jerold Dixon was a closeted gay lawyer suspected of murders at the hands of his wife Sela Dixon.
History[]
Jerold’s and Sela’s marriage was problematic, as Sela was a bigot and refuse to get a divorce for Jerold’s sake so she could possess him. Jerold was left conflicted about his orientation, but he still had boyfriends, including Tony Conneca, who Jerold met at one of Tony’s drag performances. Because of Jerold’s confusion and pressure from Sela, he would stalk and sexually harass various women, but this was likely to get back at Sela and to leave himself undesirable to women. Sela was from a rich family, so she had the money to pay the women off, but she also bribed Jerold’s lovers to leave him.
It came to a head when Sela got Elliott Wells fired from his and Jerold’s firm, Elliott ready to sue and refusing to take a payout. Jerold was done with Sela’s abuse and ready to come out. Sela dragged Jerold to a confrontation with Elliott and shot Elliott dead. Jerold cleaned up the evidence and said nothing about Sela’s involvement. When Jerold’s and Elliott’s affair was found out, Tony was recruited to make Jerold confess in a sting. In spite of it being inadmissible when Tony felt the pressure to falsely blackmail Jerold about his orientation to get a confession, Jerold was taken to trial anyway.
The detectives and prosecution realized Sela had to have been at the scene, and that she had much more a motive for the murder. Jerold was convinced to testify to the grand jury how Sela killed Elliott and Jerold was a mere accomplice. Sela lost it once Jerold got home and killed him too. She was arrested and imprisoned for murder once the detectives arrived. (L&O: "Deceit")
