Ephippus Olynthius
Ephippus Olynthius (Ἔφιππος ὁ Ὀλύνθιος) fuit auctor operis hodie deperditi de ultimis Alexandri Macedonis diebus.
Si cives Olynthius erat, pro certo ante annum 348 a.C.n. natus erit, quod hoc anno Philippus II Olynthum obsessus deletusque est et cives, quos cepit, in servitutem misit. Ephippus nihilominus in eadem regione Chalcidica crescebat si idem sit, ut credunt plures, qui inspector mercenariorum in Aegypto sub regno Alexandri functus est, nomine "Ephippus Chalcideus".[1] Libro suo, cuius fragmenta quinque tantum servantur, de luxuria superbiaque aulae regiae scripsit, de ebrietate sociorum regalium necnon regis ipsius, etiam de Alexandro per iram Dionysi mortuo quippe qui urbem dei natalem (Thebas scilicet) delevisset. Lionellus Pearson proposuit Ephippum historiam de Gorgo Iasio hoplophylace scripsisse (De morte Alexandri et Hephaestionis fr. 5) pro Samiis Atheniensibusque.[2]
