"Then maybe you should have come by night, eh?"
Hurg Derpos making a joke with Jade.

Hurg Derpos is an unique minor character that appears in Hitman: Absolution. He is seen only in the mission "Absolution" during the second segment Burnwood Family Tomb.

Overview[]

Hurg Derpos is a technician, scientist and doctor that works exclusively with the ICA. Although he has limited access he is deemed as being very good at his job and very satisfactory at gathering information. During the mission "Absolution" he is hired by Jade to open up Diana Burnwood's tomb just to see if her corpse truly resides inside. While opening the tomb the crane malfunctioned causing his research to be temporarily halted.

When Agent 47 enters the area where Diana's tomb lays, an ICA soldier will make mentions of the crane being malfunctioned and how a technician was sent to help. When approaching near or around the tomb Jade and Derpos will bicker back and forth, with Jade telling Derpos the strings she had to pull to lock down a cemetery. Derpos' response is to make a joke about her calling him at night. She tells the scientist not the irritate her anymore and to give her information on his gatherings. He tells her that the tomb was indeed open and that a "John Doe" was buried. Jade tells him to keep her notified and to speed up the research.

After this conversation, Jade walks underneath the cover of Diana's tomb then walks away. Meanwhile Derpos writes on his clipboard as much information as possible, even inspecting the tomb from time to time. After doing all of that he will walk away from the tomb (temporarily) and check on an ICA Tablet. Once done he goes back to study the tomb. Although rare, Jade and Derpos will exchange small dialogue with Jade asking if the crane is operational and his response is either in a few minutes or very shortly.

Behind the Scenes[]

During development of Hitman: Absolution, the Agency Technicians weren't just exclusive to the Agency but were rather actual paramedics. In the original scrapped Blackwater Crime scene concept there was to have been a gruesome murder at Blackwater Park with a young girl being killed by Blake Dexter and her corpse being sent down a vent to the basement. When 47 arrives to the Park and disguises as a Chicago police officer or Technician they were to have seen Ambulances, a crowd of people and multiple Police officers/Technicians. Inside the basement would have the parents of the girl being escorted out and Technicians inspecting everything. It is learned that there was originally both male and female technicians as well. There was to have even been a sequence with Cosmo Faulkner. Unfortunately this sequence was completely cut from the game. All that remained were was that the Ambulances were reworked into the ICA's spy van and Hurg Derpos is the only technician seen in the final game.

Trivia[]

  • Hurg Derpos was a kill-able target in the Contracts Mode for Absolution.
    • Like Joana Collins, Patrick Basham and others in the mode, Derpos wasn't chosen due to him being considered near impossible to kill on Purist mode.
  • Derpos' ICA ID necklace has a lot of information on it. It even appears in the concept art for the scrapped blackwater park crime scene plot.
  • Derpos' Contract's Mode icon shows him wearing a mask, this is obviously not true as he isn't wearing one whatsoever.
  • The clipboard Derpos writes in is a prop taken from the mission "Rosewood".
