Magick Gloves is an accessory in Final Fantasy XII that increases magick power when HP is full, boosting the power of offensive spells and healing, and doubling the chance of status spells succeeding. In the original version, Magick Gloves boosts the power of offensive spells by 20% and healing spells by 50%, but in the Zodiac versions, both gain a 50% boost. The effect is the same as the Serenity augment, and once the character has unlocked Serenity, equipping the Magick Gloves is redundant. In the Zodiac versions, the gloves also give +100 HP.

Obtain[]

Original[]

In the original PlayStation 2 versions, the gloves can be bought from Eruyt Village, Mt Bur-Omisace, and Mosphoran Highwaste for 3,200 gil. They are also a treasure on the Ozmone Plain's The Shred (60% chance to appear, 33% chance to be gil, 10% chance to be the Magick Gloves with the Diamond Armlet equipped Map 29 Ozmone Plain). The Magick Gloves can be rarely stolen from Lizard on the Paramina Rift.

Patient-in-the-desert

The patient is a hume.

The gloves are also a possible reward for the patient in the desert quest on the Estersand. The player needs to deliver certain items to heal an injured traveler; if the player brings 8–12 items, the patient will be a hume and Vaan will get the Barheim Key and the Magick Gloves.

Zodiac[]

In the updated Zodiac versions, the gloves can be bought for 3,000 gil from Jahara, Eruyt Village, Mt Bur-Omisace, Mosphoran Highwaste (after defeating Judge Bergan), Phon Coast, Balfonheim Port, and the "secret shop" in Necrohol of Nabudis. Magick Gloves are also a treasure in Phon Coast's The Hakawea Shore (70% chance to appear, 50% chance the treasure is gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Magick Gloves without the Diamond Armlet), Tchita Uplands' Uazcuff Hills (35% chance to appear, 70% chance the treasure is gil, 50% chance the item treasure is Magick Gloves without the Diamond Armlet), and Pharos - First Ascent's Wellspring Labyrinth (75% chance to appear, 40% chance the treasure is gil; 50% chance the item treasure is Magick Gloves without the Diamond Armlet), as well as on Trial Mode stages 39 an 83 with the Diamond Armlet equipped.

The gloves can still be rarely stolen from the Lizards in Paramina Rift, and also from the Lich in Trial Mode Stage 9. The gloves are still a possible reward from the "patient in the desert" quest with the same requirements as before.

Use[]

The effect the gloves bestow is good, as the magick-user gains a large boost in magick power when in full health, which can then also stack with Faith; a healer can be dedicated with topping up the party's mages so they can stay in full health. However, the same effect is gained from the Serenity license, making the Magick Gloves redundant once the player has it. In the original versions, every character can unlock it, but in the Zodiac versions, only the following jobs have it: White Mage, Red Battlemage, Time Battlemage, Black Mage, and Bushi. The Magick Gloves can be used to give the effect to the other jobs. However, in The Zodiac Age, the player can pick two License Boards per party member, and so even the other jobs can gain the Serenity license with correct pairings.

Etymology[]

Magick is an Early Modern English spelling for magic. Magick, in the context of Aleister Crowley's Thelema, is a term used to differentiate the occult from stage magic and is defined as "the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will", including both "mundane" acts of will as well as ritual magic.
