The Free Cities of Kanver (自由都市カンベル, Jiyū Toshi Kanberu?) is a political entity that seeks to be independent of the Dhalmekian Republic in Final Fantasy XVI. They have no Dominants nor a Mothercrystal, but the region is known for trade and mercantilism, and has a famous university.
History[]
Gil has been used as the common currency of Valisthea since the signing of the Continental Accord that denotes the start of the modern day calendar. The Accord entrusted the administration of currency to a merchant guild, headquartered in what would eventually become known as the Free Cities of Kanver,[1] which remains a hub for trade.
In the Year of the Realm 849, the Free Cities of Kanver tried to secede from the Dhalmekian Republic[2] with the support of the Kingdom of Waloed, who were supporting Kanver's efforts to establish a presence on Storm. Kanver gained its independence in 857.[3]
