Glove said to have belonged to a mighty gigas. Boosts the wearer's physical attack power.

Description

Gigas Glove, also known as Atlas Armlet,[1][2] is a relic in Final Fantasy VI. It increases the physical damage dealt by the user by 25%, making it a useful boost for fighters who focus on damage output.

Obtained[]

Gigas Glove can be bought for 5,000 gil at Albrook and Jidoor, found in Mt. Kolts, and stolen from Hill Gigas.

Mechanics[]

Gigas Glove increases the wearer's physical damage by 25%. The effect does not stack with multiple Gigas Gloves. If the character whom Umaro tosses (Berserker Ring effect) has Gigas Glove equipped, the damage increase is applied to the toss.

Use[]

Gigas Glove is a simple damage-boosting relic that is beneficial for physical fighters. Though the damage increase is lower than Gauntlet and Genji Glove, both of them affect the party member's equipment and prevent the user from equipping a shield, which reduces their ability to block attacks. As such, Gigas Glove's benefit comes with less of a cost, making it worthwhile. Characters who focus on physical damage typically include Locke, Edgar, Cyan, and Gau; Terra and Celes can also be geared toward this depending on player preference.

Earring serves as the equivalent of Gigas Glove but for magic damage, while Hero's Ring provides a 25% boost to all types of damage, making it a better overall relic.

Gigas Glove can be a decent pair with Black Belt to make for stronger counterattacks, or Hyper Wrist for stronger physical attacks. Alternatively, a defensive relic may be a better choice. Later in the game, the benefits of Genji Glove outweigh the negatives, meaning that Gigas Glove is mostly obsolete.

Though Umaro may seem well-suited to Gigas Glove, Gauntlet has no drawbacks for him (as he cannot equip a shield) and a greater damage increase, meaning it is a better relic for him.

Etymology[]

Gigas is a popular term for races of giants in fantasy games. Gigas is a Greek word meaning "giant", originally used to describe the race of Gigantes in Greek mythology and is used in the scientific name, as the specific epithet, of hundreds of species of animals and dozens of plant species to denote their size.

The bracer used to be called "Atlas Armlet" in English.[1][2] In Greek mythology Atlas is one of the Titans, a race of primordial giants who fought against the gods of Olympus. When the Titans lost, Zeus punished Atlas by forcing him to spend eternity at the western horizon holding up the sky on his shoulders.
