Forbidden is a Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Forbidden is the twenty-third card in the inventory and the first Level 3 card.
Being a Level 3 card, the card values on the Forbidden are not strong, but may be useful for games that use Same and/or Plus.
Obtain[]
The Forbidden monster has a 3.5% chance to drop the card. Using the Card command on a Forbidden has a 93.7% chance to procure a Forbidden card when it succeeds.
Any AI Triple Triad player who uses Level 3 cards has a chance of using Forbidden in a play, from where the player can win it in a card match.
When the party are on their way to the Timber TV Station, they must get through the Aphrora Pub, but the rear exit is blocked by a drifter. The player can get past him by showing the Buel card they got from the G-Soldiers outside, but another way is to buy the drifter his favorite drink and he will give Squall a Forbidden card in return. The player can figure out his favorite drink by observing what he is already holding and by talking to the waitress and bar tender to find the different types of drinks available.
Card Mod[]
A Forbidden card refines into a Betrayal Sword with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. It can further be made into Remedies and Confuse spells. Confuse is a useful spell to have for status junctions, and thus it may be desirable to amass Forbidden cards in the early game.
Physical version[]
In 1999, following the release of Final Fantasy VIII in Japan, Bandai produced a full set of collectible Triple Triad cards in Final Fantasy VIII Carddass Masters Perfect Visuals. The set was made up of the 110 cards as seen in the game along with 72 artwork cards and a collector's edition playing mat. The cards have a blue side and a red side.
