David M. Spooner
David M. Spooner es un taxónomo estadounidense, profesor de la Universidad de Wisconsin, dedicado a la investigación de las límites entre especies y las relaciones filogenéticas en las papas (la sección Petota del género Solanum) y tomates (sección Lycopersicon de Solanum) silvestres y cultivados. Utiliza para ello datos provenientes de la morfología comparada, de los análisis de marcadores moleculares (AFLPs y RFLPs) y de secuencias de ADN, tanto de genes nucleares como del cloroplasto. Ha realizado y continúa realizando expediciones de colección en los Estados Unidos, México, América Central y América del Sur. Además es el encargado de mantener el herbario de la colección de papas de Sturgeon Bay (Wisconsin). Realizó sus estudios de grado en la Universidad de Miami entre 1967 y 1971, su maestría en Botánica en la Universidad de Ohio, bajo la dirección del Dr. R.M. Lloyd y, finalmente, obtuvo su doctorado en la misma Universidad en 1987 bajo la tutela del Profesor T.F. Stuessy.
