[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *klā́ˀtei (“to lay, stack”), from Proto-Indo-European *kléh₂-ye-ti, the ye-present of *kleh₂- (“to put; to lay out”). Cognate with Latvian klāt (“to cover”), Proto-Slavic *klàsti (“to put, set down, stack”).[1]
