'''Ackal Ergot''' was the founder of the [[Empire of Ergoth]] in the fictional series of [[Dragonlance]] novels. He was a warrior of great renown with many legend surrounding him.

==Uniting the Barbarians==
Ackal was born in Sanction, a future evil city in eastern Ansalon, some 2650 years before the [[Cataclysm (Dragonlance)|Cataclysm]]. He traveled far and wide, and in one of his exploits uncovered the World's Heart, which gave him a vision of a united empire made from the barbarian tribes of the area. He attacked ogre cities around the Khalkist Mountains, the location of the World's Heart, taking their treasure and building a reputation for himself to the barbarians in the mountains. Ackal either bought off the tribes with his treasure, uniting them under his flag, or crushed them if they refused to join him. After this, legends began to build of his savageness, saying that he sometimes drank the blood of his enemies and was also known to attack those under him in rages. The conquering of barbarians culminated in a duel with his brother who was chieftain of a barbarian tribe in the area. Ackal won and conquered the last tribe, uniting the barbarians at last.

==The Empire==
Out of these lands and his new subjects, Ackal created the new [[Empire of Ergoth]]. He settled in Daltigoth, the new capital of Ergoth. He turned his commanders and other important figures in his military into the Riders of the Great Horde, the nobles of his nation.

Ackal died when he fell down a flight of stairs five years after building his palace in Daltigoth. His successor was his son, Ackal II.
