All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2012

The All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (Amendment) Bill, 2012,was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 27,2012. This bill will also replace a recent Ordinance which allowed the six AIIMS—like institutes to become operational from September 2012.[2] Lok Sabha passed the AIIMS (Amendment) Bill, 2012 on August 30,2012.[3] The proposed measure will help the Centre change the status of the six new AIIMS registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act to be autonomous body corporate on the lines of the existing AIIMS in Delhi.AIIMS(Amendment) Bill,2012 was introduced in Rajya Sabha on September 3,2012.[4][5]Rajya Sabha passed the AIIMS (Amendment) Bill, 2012 on September 4,2012.[6][7][8]

New AIIMS

In 2012, 6 new AIIMS like institutes will start under the Pradhan Mantri Swastha Suraksha Yojana at Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh.[9] AIIMS New Delhi, has been mentoring the two new AIIMS in Patna and Bhubaneswar, PGI Chandigarh has been mentoring AIIMS coming up in Rishikesh and Jodhpur, while JIPMER Puducherry has been overseeing the AIIMS in Bhopal and Raipur.[10] AIIMS at Jodhpur will start the academic session 2012-13 from September 17,2012, Bhopal (September 18,2012), Rishikesh (September 20), Bhubaneswar (September 21), Raipur (September 24) and Patna(September 25,2012).[11]

Future AIIMS

Earlier in 2009, the government had further decided to set up two more AIIMS-like institutes at Raiganj in West Bengal and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh.[12][13][14] Now,there is a strong possibility that instead of Raiganj,the new AIIMS in West Bengal will be shifted to Kalyani in Nadia district.[15][16]

AIIMS-II

The second campus of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS-II), perhaps bigger than the one in Delhi, began in Badhsa village in Haryana`s Jhajjar district on May 30,2012. It is being built at a cost of 1,000 crore (US$120 million).[17][18] The center had decided to set up an institute of AIIMS repute in NCR region in 2009.The work for this prestigious project named AIIMS II would start after 3 years.[19]
