During an interview after their reunion announcement in February 2009, drummer Travis Barker confirmed that they had been in the studio since December 2008 writing and recording new material, which is to be released in the summer 2011.

Recording and themes

Each member had brought in their own musical ideas and songs, while also writing new material together. Blink 182 also revisited older demos they had written in 2004, before they went on indefinite hiatus.[1] A new single, titled "Up All Night," has been announced for the new album. In addition to describing the album as weird and ambitious, Hoppus told MTV News the new Blink-182 record will be expansive.[2] DeLonge has described the new album as a combination of the band's various side projects, and has also said that the new album will be a mixture of drum and bass, indie rock and stadium rock. '"I can't say we’ve done that before, but you can see the tip of the iceberg on the last record," Delonge has commented.[3] Hoppus stated in a November 2010 blog post that the album would be completed in April or May 2011 and the album would be released shortly after, in time for the tour.[4]

Release

In February 2011, Travis Barker reportedly claimed that the new album should be out "by the end of this year or early next year" at a signing before appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, pushing the release date of the album back another few months, as Mark Hoppus had previously stated that he wanted the album to originally be out in either April or May.[5] However, Travis Barker recently posted on his official Twitter account that the Blink-182 album will be out this summer.[6]

In an MTV interview in February 2011, Barker confirmed that the new album is slated for a summer release, stating "I think we'll turn in our album in June or July, honestly.... ""... It's coming close, to the point where these are completed songs and they're not going to change. These are album versions."[7]
