Lady Sarah Frances Elizabeth Chatto, née Armstrong-Jones, (born 1 May 1964) is the only daughter of the 1st Earl of Snowdon and Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, the second daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. She is 16th in line of succession to the thrones of each of the Commonwealth Realms, and at the time of her birth was seventh. She is the only niece of Queen Elizabeth II. She is the youngest grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

She and her cousin The Princess Royal were the only granddaughters of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, who is said to have doted on them. It has been said in many interviews that Lady Sarah and her brother David spent a lot of time with the Queen and she often took them to Balmoral during summer holidays while their parents were off on some exotic location. The Queen was said to be a source of security for the children.

She was born at Kensington Palace in London.

Lady Sarah attended the Camberwell School of Art and Middlesex Polytechnic and is currently a professional painter. She is also Vice President of the Royal Ballet, an appointment she accepted in 2004, following the example of her mother who was a patron of the Royal Ballet.

She and her brother, Viscount Linley, have attracted far less media attention than their cousins, the Queen's children, and their mother interfered very little in their professional and personal lives, which some believe has led to their success in both areas[citation needed].

The Queen keeps in good contact with Lady Sarah and Lord Linley; they often accompany her on family holidays and they and their children are always invited to royal events. They usually spend Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham. She has a half-sister Frances Armstrong-Jones.

Marriage and issue

Lady Sarah married Daniel Chatto on 14 July 1994, the marriage being officiated by the Reverend Chad Varah. Together the couple have two children:
