Peter Førde (born 16 June 1988, in Førde, Norway) is a Norwegian actor. He began acting on stage in his early teens, working on several shorts and indie films before making his feature film debut in The Tunnel in 2019. He is known for his roles in a number of films and TV series, including Føkkings Fladseth and State of Happiness.

Early life and education

Førde discovered acting at an early age when joining a youth theatre group in his home town. Realizing that he wanted to become an actor, he went on to study theatre at Romerike Folk High School (2008 – 09). In 2010 he moved to New York to attend The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, graduating in 2013. He later went on to study the Meisner technique at the Maggie Flanigan Studio.[1][2][3]

He was based in New York in the years 2010 – 2023, and nowadays he divides his time between Oslo and New York.[4]

Career

In 2010, one month after arriving in New York, he was cast in Todrick Hall’s music video It Gets Better.[5] In the years following his graduation in 2013 he starred in a number of short films (like Library of God),[6] independent feature films (like Know Nothins),[7] as well as acting on stage. In 2019 however, after several years of barely getting any roles, he decided to give up on acting.[4]

Less than a week after his decision to quit, Førde was contacted by a Norwegian casting director, getting a last minute audition for the supporting role of "Kurt" in the Norwegian feature film The Tunnel, that of the youngest and newest addition to the firefighters team intervening in the disaster.[4] He booked the role and flew to Norway less than a week later to begin shooting. The movie premiered nationwide in theatres in Norway on December 25th, 2019 and won several awards and nominations.[3]

In the years 2021 and 2022, he starred in several smaller roles in feature films such as The Nightmare (directed by Kjersti Helen Rasmussen)[8] and Leave (directed by Alex Herron), as well as in the TV series Alt Du Elsker (directed by Stian Kristiansen).[9]

The director Øyvind Holtmon noticed Førde in Alt Du Elsker and invited him to audition for, and ended up casting him in the role of "Jarlen" in his comedy series project Føkkings Fladseth, portraying an up-and-coming stand-up comedian with a drug problem.[9][10] The series premiered in November 2023 and won the Gullruten award for Best Comedy in 2024.[11]

The same year, Førde was cast as "Bjørklund" (a deep sea diver) in the third season of the Norwegian award-winning period drama series State of Happiness (portraying the development of petroleum industry in Norway).[4] The series was shot on location in Stavanger and Belgium during 2023, and is set to premiere on NRK in October 2024.[12]
