From Old Albanian mpson (Bogdani, Budi), ëmpson (Buzuku), from Proto-Albanian *imbitjɔnit, borrowed from Vulgar Latin *invitiō, *invitiāre, from *vitiō, from Latin vitium (vice). Compare Romanian învăța.[2]
Otherwise from pësoj, itself of Latin origin, developing in mpsoj, psoj, mbsoj, mbësoj and other dialectal forms.[3]
