When citing sources, NEVER credit someone with the "author" parameter. Please keep in mind that Wikipedia uses the "first" and "last" parameters. Vendetta (upcoming film) moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Vendetta (upcoming film), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Donaldd23 Out of curiosity, are you one of those editors who doesn’t know how to move an article to draftspace without leaving a redirect? It's okay if you don't know how because I don't know how either (but it would be a lot easier to do that rather than proposing the article for deletion in my opinion). Anyways, I've moved the article to draftspace and requested the redirect for speedy deletion. The Film Creator (talk) 10:22, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have reverted your new article at this title. There are incoming redirects to that page that are not intended for the subject of your article. Ways to improve An Innocent Kiss

edit

Hello, The Film Creator,

Thank you for creating An Innocent Kiss.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Thanks for the article! Though, three of the refs are routine announcements that fail WP:GNG or WP:NFILM. The Dove Foundation is likely reliable (see WP:RS) and constitutes significant coverage, my WP:BEFORE search revealed few refs other than this one paragraph review which might be significant but could go either way. Addition info: I've read your previous comments on your user talk page, feel free to draftify this if you can't find many other refs, though if I missed any please add them here, many thanks!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|VickKiang}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Ways to improve The Price We Pay (2022 film)

edit

Hello, The Film Creator,

Thank you for creating The Price We Pay (2022 film).

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

I've tagged notability. The Starburst article is RS that is probably WP:SIGCOV, while The Hollywood Reporter is WP:RS, this article is a routine announcement IMHO with a plot summary and quotes, there isn't critical commentary that counts as a review to pass WP:NFILM nor as significant coverage (to pass WP:GNG). This states that Source: Hollywood Reporter- an identical routine announcement per WP:GNG it counts IMHO as: It is common for multiple newspapers or journals to publish the same story, sometimes with minor alterations or different headlines, but one story does not constitute multiple works. My WP:BEFORE search found websites that probably fail WP:RS, including 1, 2, which is For Film Fans By Film Fans- this doesn't meet WP:RS sadly. Therefore, currently, I don't believe this passes the notability guidelines; however, it's recently released, and there could potentially be more reviews in the future. If I missed any refs, please reply to my comment or add them to the article talk page. Many thanks!

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|VickKiang}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

More 'Unrealized projects' pages

edit

Hello, I noticed you've recently created an unrealized projects page for director William Friedkin, based on a table that already appeared in the regular article. There are a few more directors that have tables like these and I wanted to request that you create pages for Joe Dante, Mark Romanek, Peter Bogdanovich, Brian De Palma, and Michael Mann, the last three of which the 'Unrealized projects' appear in their 'Filmography' pages. I also noticed that you've missed a couple projects of Friedkin's listed, including The Bunker Hill Boys, Sea Trial, his Howard Hughes biopic, TV shows based on Killer Joe and To Live and Die in L.A., and the description of Blood and Money as being a film project when in fact he developed it for television. All the main refs I initially included for those projects when I added the main table on his regular page, which was prior to when the article by IndieWire was published, which didn't include every project, because not every reference had a link. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 00:25, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

@ZanderAlbatraz1145: I must say I'm truly flattered. This is the first time someone has requested me to create an article on a topic I happen to fascinated with. Unfortunately, I must decline your request and please let me explain why:
You see, I was able to create the "unrealized projects" articles on Friedkin and Martin Scorsese because I was able to find multiple reliable sources that mention their list of unrealized projects as the main topic. Per WP:LISTN: "One accepted reason why a list topic is considered notable is if it has been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources, per the above guidelines; notable list topics are appropriate for a stand-alone list."
For example, in the case of Friedkin, I was able to find three reliable sources from IndieWire, MovieWeb and Collider and all three mention a list of Friedkin's unmade projects as a group or set and as the main topic.
Therefore, I would need multiple reliable sources that cover the list unrealized projects of the filmmakers you mentioned (e.g. Dante, De Palma) in order for the Wikipedia articles to pass WP:LISTN. If an "unrealized projects" article doesn't pass WP:LISTN, it will get redirected to the article of said filmmaker. That's why Michael Cimino's unrealized projects and Christopher Nolan's unrealized projects got redirected to Michael Cimino and Christopher Nolan respectively.
Like I said, I'm very flattered, but sadly I must decline unless you or me could provide those reliable sources. The Film Creator (talk) 10:12, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Understandable. Either way, thank you for your reply. But it's worth noting that most of the Unrealized projects tables are without a sourced comprehensive reference that covers all of the them. I never thought it had been a necessity since the majority just lists the reliable sources, either by way of book or article; J. J. Abrams, Darren Aronofsky, Michael Bay, Kathryn Bigelow, James Cameron, John Carpenter, Chris Columbus, Spike Lee, Shekhar Kapur, David Lynch, John McTiernan, George Miller, Sam Raimi... the list is endless. So while I understand your concern quite well, I don't see your point, as its been done before, and should not prevent more articles from being made. It's information, I believe, that should be shared with the public in a comprehensive way. I actually comprised the table of Friedkin's projects before the article had been published by IndieWire, MovieWeb and Collider. A comprehensive reference has only been made after the fact. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 12:57, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ZanderAlbatraz1145: You’re welcome. If it helps, in the case of Michael Mann, I was able to find a reliable source from MovieWeb that covers a list of Mann’s unmade films. If there were more of these from different authors and other reliable sources, I would be more than happy to create the article. The Film Creator (talk) 14:13, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes, but that's precisely what I'm saying. For example, you created the page for Martin Scorsese, and had initially only included the projects that were compromised in those articles. Now, if you visit the page, dozens more have been added by myself or other editors. Does that mean they would be removed because they haven't been referenced elsewhere? Doesn't make sense to me. If you were to create one for Michael Mann, yes, use that MovieWeb source, but pick from the references that have already been found in the complete table on his Filmography. I also suggest doing some more research for the Orson Welles article you've recently created. He's had around 60 unmade films, no exaggeration. And you can find reliable sources for those, even by listening books as the source. I'd be happy to help you with that. I just don't see the point in creating an article specifically for a director's unmade or abandoned films if one is not going to at least TRY to list all of them. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 14:26, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ZanderAlbatraz1145: I encourage that you continue adding more information on the Orson Welles article. Wikipedia is about collaboration so you’re more than welcome to add the omissions I failed to mention.
I understand what you mean by β€œDoesn't make sense to me.” What I’m trying to say is: as long as the article can pass WP:LISTN, it can be eligible for article status. The Film Creator (talk) 14:45, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
In the words of Columbo, "just one more thing"; I've added a list of Welles' projects not listed on the articles' talk page. If there'd be a way to spread the word, or if you could add those yourself, and I'll contribute some as well. Call me lazy, but I don't feel like adding ALL of them. I already compromised them for you. Either way, thanks for your time. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 15:26, 7 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'd say pass on the Mann one if you do decide to. Despite the benefits of a singular page on the topic, its better to let people look toward the complete table on his filmography page should they want to know about his unmade films, rather than be misinformed by looking at an incomplete list.

Akira Kurosawa's unrealized projects

edit

How's this page you mentioned to be working on coming along? This is the one I was most excited about, as there are not many of thrm for foreign directors. I also have found a couple of additional sources that mention some of Kurosawa's projects probably not listed in the sources you mentioned. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 04:06, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

@ZanderAlbatraz1145: Sadly, I’ve had to pass on the unrealized projects article on Kurosawa because I couldn’t find a source relating to each of his unmade projects. :( The Film Creator (talk) 10:26, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oh, well that's a shame. I had actually started to compile a couple, using the articles you mentioned, plus two others. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 14:37, 29 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
ZanderAlbatraz1145 I would like to ask you something. Do you know if the-solute.com is a reliable source? I ask because I am contemplating on using that as a source along with a link from Screen Rant in order to create an β€œunrealized projects” page on Steven Soderbergh. The Film Creator (talk) 22:31, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@The Film Creator: If you cross-reference all of the titles listed on the-solute.com, and all of it checks out, then it's reliable. Looks like it was compiled by Soderbergh fans. Similarly, the website LynchNet was the primary source used for his Unrealized projects page, and since then there have been several articles written based off information presented on that page, written from sources such as Screen Rant, MovieWeb and IndieWire.
But once again, I don't think that an unmade films article for Soderbergh is really necessary. Articles on filmmakers or artists infamous for unproduced works, or will be someday, is preferable. Soderbergh's on... what... film #30 now?? I don't think he's struggling to get movies made. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 22:51, 1 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
ZanderAlbatraz1145 Ah what the heck, I might as well create β€œunrealized projects” articles on Mann, Ramis, Apatow, McKay, Dayton & Faris and Soderbergh as well as on Oliver Stone, Antoine Fuqua and Terry Zwigoff The Film Creator (talk) 01:09, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@The Film Creator: I got the Stone one covered. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 13:18, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'd prefer it if you didn't do the Mann one though, unless you're willing to use every reference I researched and found, and used in Michael Mann filmography#Unrealized projects ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 13:30, 4 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Terry Zwigoff's are also already listed on Terry Zwigoff#Unrealized projects here. No need for a double. As long as they're listed somewhere already, it's good. Not every filmmaker should have an Unrealized projects article, otherwise I would have done ones on James Gray, Alexander Payne, Sylvain Chomet, Jack Clayton, and loads of others. For example, I'm compiling a set of references of unmade projects to list on the filmmaker Carl Franklin's page, but will not be making a separate article as I don't think it warrants one. Question about 'Michael Cimino's unrealized projects'

edit

Would the following sources be suitable enough to re-create the 'Michael Cimino's unrealized projects' page? The first article, while written in French, does discuss five projects as a group of films that were not made. Plus, there are sections in these other two articles that break down and discuss some of his unrealized projects as a group. I included quotes in the last two to make it easier:

[1][2][3]

References

  1. ^ Ganzo, Fernando (September 22, 2016). "MICHAEL CIMINO en 5 films rΓͺvΓ©s, par Vincent Maraval". Sofilm (in French). Archived from the original on October 6, 2020.
  2. ^ Broeske, Pat H. (October 7, 1990). "Look Who's Back With a New Movie: 'The Deer Hunter' made Michael Cimino a winner, but his next film was the legendary failure 'Heaven's Gate.' With 'Desperate Hours,' the stakes have never been higher". Los Angeles Times. Retrieved August 1, 2019. Of course, all directors drop in and out of projects, but Cimino seems to have been announced to direct a large number that didn't happen, albeit for a variety of reasons. Among them:...
  3. ^ Gray, Tim (July 2, 2016). "Michael Cimino, 'Deer Hunter' and 'Heaven's Gate' Director, Dies at 77". Variety. Retrieved February 11, 2024. Cimino circled many projects that never came to fruition, including a life of Dostoevsky developed with Raymond Carver; adaptations of "Crime and Punishment," Truman Capote's "Handcarved Coffins," Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead" and Andre Malraux's "Man's Fate"; and bios of Janis Joplin, Legs Diamond and Mafia boss Frank Costello. He also circled many projects eventually directed by others, including "The Bounty," "Footloose," "The Pope of Greenwich Village" and "Born on the Fourth of July."

@ZanderAlbatraz1145 Also, Michael Cimino's unrealized projects is currently a redirect to Michael Cimino. Therefore, if you want to move the page back to mainspace, please see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Cimino's unrealized projects and Wikipedia:Deletion review. The Film Creator (talk) 21:42, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Appreciate your comment, but I don't see how those can help me. If I decide to do it, I want to be sure that it won't be deleted and redirected back to the regular article for a SECOND time. Those three sources I mentioned should prevent that, no? ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 22:57, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ZanderAlbatraz1145 I suggest reading WP:REDIR before you move the redirect to mainspace just to be in the safe side. After all, the page on Cimino's unrealized projects got redirected to the page on Cimino due to this deletion discussion. The Film Creator (talk) 23:05, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@ZanderAlbatraz1145 One other thing, if you decide to move Cimino's projects to mainspace and someone reverts your edit, contact whoever reverted on that person's talk page and discuss it with them in a civil manner. Plus, you can even start a new discussion about it at Talk:Michael Cimino. Unrealized project question

edit

Hey man, I have a question. I was considering adding the project "Untitled The Doors biopic" to the Martin Scorsese's unrealized projects page using the following references; [1][2]

However, since there is no specified date on either reference I have listed, what do you recommend I do? Should I make a rough estimation based on the two referencesβ€”something I've done before, but seems doubly difficult in this caseβ€”or do I just not include it at all? ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 19:35, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@ZanderAlbatraz1145 I would make a rough estimation. Based on the sources you gave me, I would say β€œsometime around the early 1990s,” for example. The Film Creator (talk) 19:40, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, any estimation would deem inaccurate, but, "the early 1990s" probably isn't either, as Stone's The Doors was first announced in September 1989. ZanderAlbatraz1145 (talk) 19:49, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Cannes coverage

edit

Hey there, Film Creator. I came across your work because it was highlighted by Depths of Wikipedia - thanks for all you do in film coverage!

A few other Wikipedians and myself are at the Cannes Film Festival taking photos for Wikimedia as part of the WikiPortraits initiative (we've also covered Sundance and SXSW this year - you can find some of our work here). You may already know this, but there are many in-competition films at Cannes this year that currently lack articles but appear notable (or are soon-to-be notable). I just wanted to highlight these at potential opportunities if you're looking for any film articles to work on (and that we can help illustrate through photos at their premieres, Q&A sessions, etc.). We also have more photos to go with films at SXSW and Sundance. A lot of the Cannes films go on to be nominated for many awards, including the Oscars. Last year, Zone of Interest and Anatomy of a Fall both premiered at Cannes.

And if you'd ever like to talk about WikiPortraits and in-person coverage of films, or come to a film festival with us, we'd love to work together.

Thank you! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 18:06, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@SuperHamster I must say I’m truly shocked about the X post and I’m humbly flattered. Thank you for sharing that and for informing me about WikiPortraits. I must also admit I am tempted to help you guys out at WikiPortraits. It would be a dream come true for me to attend a film festival, whether it’s Cannes, Sundance, TriBeca, etc.
Much appreciated :-) The Film Creator (talk) 18:49, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! If you don't mind, shoot me an email so we can keep in touch re: film festivals. We often have spare beds available when we hit up film festivals, which can go to dedicated Wikipedians as long as they can get themselves to the festival (e.g. we hosted a Wikidata editor at SXSW for all their data work on films). And hey, if you happen to live in easy traveling distance to Cannes, we have some open slots if you're able to make it.
If you do work on any Cannes-related film articles, please let me know so we can try to prioritize covering them! We can also let you know which films at Cannes are buzzy, getting good reception, etc. and are bound to do well beyond their premiere. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 19:50, 14 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

To Wong Foo edit

edit

Hi @The Film Creator, I'm @Spectrallights. This message is in regards to an edit you made to To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar last month. In your edit, you added the sentence "John Leguizamo revealed in May 2024 that Patrick Swayze was difficult to work with" to the Filming section, with citations from Variety and Entertainment Weekly. I removed these (but not the recent Variety citation) because in my research preparing the article for good article status, it was not exactly news that Leguizamo and Swayze clashed on set. The articles I used as references for the statement about "friction among cast and crew", particularly the 2015 one from Yahoo!, already detail the on-set frictions between the leads. The newer Leguizamo quote is mostly repeating that same information. Also, the EW article is essentially a repeat of the Variety story. If you have any questions or think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Spectrallights (talk) 22:44, 21 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrolled

edit

Hi The Film Creator, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.
