Draft:Speaking community to trans atlantic african slaves traded ratio

Dear Qcne, I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide me with some feedback on why my article did not meet the acceptance criteria. I would be grateful for any guidance you can offer to help me improve it. Thank you for your time and dedication. 194.38.172.194 (talk) 09:17, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi IP editor. Your draft wasn't really an encyclopaedic article: just a list of slave populations and then a ratio calculation. This isn't what Wikipedia is for, but if you can find reliable research on this topic you might be able to add to existing articles. Qcne (talk) 11:22, 5 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Request for feedback on submission: Benedikt Sobotka

Hi there, thanks for the quick review of my submission for Benedikt Sobotka (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Benedikt_Sobotka). The sources of information I have used for this article are reputable references such as Bloomberg, Reuters and FT, so if I try to rewrite the tone of the article to be more neutral - would this still be a relevant article to submit? Is he notable enough? Thanks for your help in understanding this process. Domkotze (talk) 09:00, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Domkotze
The first Bloomberg source 404s for me, and the other two are interviews, though there is a tiny bit of analysis in the interviews I wouldn't call them great sources as they're not independent.
The two Reuters sources just parrot what he says, so aren't independent.
The two FT sources are okay.
However the article really does need a total re-write to be utterly neutral. Paraphrase the reliable sources in your own words but make no assertations and check out words to avoid.
It would also be really helpful if you filled in the bare URLs in the references. Check out the referencing tutorial at WP:INTREFVE. Qcne (talk) 09:37, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much for the feedback @Qcne, I'll have another go at rewriting it and use relevant sources. 165.73.118.91 (talk) 11:51, 4 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
No worries, let me know if you want me to have another look before you submit it for review. Qcne (talk) 11:54, 4 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi again, I've managed to rewrite and add better referencing, would you be able to take a look? How do I do that? Domkotze (talk) 13:39, 29 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Domkotze, still problematic I am afraid. Some examples of un-encyclopedia language includes:
- "prominent figure" < who says he is a prominent figure?
- "became a significant player" < who says they are a significant player?
- "articulated a clear vision for a greener future" < flowery prose.
- "has shown a keen interest" < unencyclopedic.
My advice: forget everything you know about him. Cut out all the fluff. Stick to only paraphrasing what a reliable secondary source states about him. Keep it neutral, factual, accurate. Don't lead the reader in any direction with the Wikipedia voice, don't make any statements or claims that are unsourced.
And, again it would be useful to fill in the bare URL's in the references. qcne (talk) 12:07, 30 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think maybe you were still seeing the old version, do I publish my changes - I thought it saved as a draft automatically. Sorry! Domkotze (talk) 07:48, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have published them now, thanks for your time! Domkotze (talk) 07:49, 2 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Rejected Submission - Lionel (artist)

@Qcne Thanks for the feedback, it was unexpectedly prompt and very helpful (this is my first submission)

I have converted the external links to inline citations and cleaned up the writing style. Please let me know if there are any other aspects of the article you think would improve it. TheUrbanArtivist (talk) 16:27, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @TheUrbanArtivist, small point but I only declined your article (so you can improve and re-submit; rejected would be the end of the road).
In any case- I'm happy with the draft now, so have accepted.
Ref #16 doesn't seem to exist in the body of the text, which is why there's an error at the bottom. Could you fix?
Please also add some WP:CATEGORIES. You can also add a link to the Disambiguation page at Lionel. Qcne (talk) 16:33, 1 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey @Qcne! I very much appreciate your feedback on the draft article ive been working on. Would you kindly review it again? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:The_Travel_Agency:_A_Cannabis_Store Stephvrona (talk) 23:45, 8 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

I was hoping you could help me

I have been working on Orphaned articles and came across Giuma Omar Bukleb, which I noticed you declined [1]. The editor then moved the article to the main space.

I was looking for links, which I completed. I was looking for ISBN numbers for some of the books the author has written, but I can't find any of the books. This might be because I am on my mobile. I found this [2] that includes 2 short stories from the author. I also looked at our article for A Cure for Serpents as it is listed at Buklebs article as translated by him in 2015 but the article for the book says it was translated by Kathleen Naylor with a link to the book on Amazon [3]. I've no idea what to do with the article now? Can you help? Knitsey (talk) 19:07, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

A cursory search finds very little online.. no where near enough for notability. I am going to re-draftify this article and let the editor know. Thanks for pointing letting me know! qcne (talk) 19:10, 10 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

All the best, ScotsOats (talk) 01:38, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @ScotsOats - I'm still not quite seeing enough independent coverage which isn't based on interviews with employers, significant coverage which isn't just routine business coverage without much independent analysis/commentary (i.e. the techfundingnews.com source which is just re-gurgitating a press release with horrific flowery prose).
I think you're close though, so two more sources of good calibre would probably nudge it over the edge of notability. qcne (talk) 13:16, 17 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Carl Azuz

Thank you for the quick turnaround on my submission. The challenge I face in creating this article is that the subject is a journalist who covers the news, and has not received much news coverage about Mr. Azuz himself. Surely this person is notable, as the former host of a popular student news show produced by a large media outlet. He currently has more than 40,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel and over 60,000 followers on X. I would appreciate some suggestions in buttressing the page in hopes to get it published. Thank you! Pveclaire (talk) 21:52, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Pveclaire. We're looking for significant coverage in reliable, independent sources to prove notability. Notability in this case doesn't mean "famous" or "has 50k> subscribers", but instead should be thought of "noted in secondary sources".
The Buzzfeed News source is okay, in that it does provide significant coverage (though - not sure how reliable Buzzfeed is these days..). The mhstrail is a fairly concise source and also doesn't provide that sigcov. qcne (talk) 21:58, 18 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Damilare Okunola. It is written a little better - but still not ready.
We require that biographies have in-line citations for every piece of information. You have 4 in-line citations which leaves half of the text uncited. We would need citations for everything, starting with the date of birth.
The tone is still promotional in places and are not encyclopaedic:
- nurturing her passion
- remarkable results

Request for draft check

Hi Qcne,

I saw that you answered to my question and I was wondering if you can also check the draft I have. I am struggling more than a month already and now I think that it is good enough to be published. Of course, I am open to hear your feedback, but the last time one of your colleagues said that this version should be approved. I will really appreciate it if you take a look and if you have the rights to post it.

Thank you in advance!

Best Regards, Lstr1 (talk) 09:32, 28 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Lstr1,
Bad news I am afraid - I've had a look and I would decline this article in it's current state. Let me explain my reasons:
Sources
A look through your sources show that most of them are not independent of Elestor:
- innovationnewsnetwork: just giving an overview of their eBook.
- taiyangnews: just regurgitating what Elestor says about their technology.
- second innovationnewsnetwork source: an interview with CEO and CTO.
- third innovationnewsnetwork source: just routine business coverage with their investment details.
- koolenindustries: not independent as it's their parent company.
- renewablesnow: regurgitated press release.
Awards
The awards are all non-notable; as in they do not confer notability to the company just because they have won these awards.
Still vaguely an advert
Three examples below of subtle promotion: using the Wikivoice to lead the reader into believing certain things. Wikipedia article should be written totally neutrally.
"Elestor's batteries are designed to be efficient, scalable, and cost-effective, offering storage systems that can be deployed globally to meet the increasing demand for renewable energy"
"By addressing the intermittency of renewable energy sources, Elestor's long-duration storage systems facilitate the integration of renewable energy into the grid, contributing to a stable and reliable energy supply"
"Elestor's technology has the potential to serve as a substitute for fossil fuel power plants at a gigawatt-hour (GWh) scale, functioning as "bi-directional power plants"
How to improve
Find three strong sources that each devote significant coverage to the company through the use of independent analysis, discussion, debate commentary, criticism, etc. These should not be fully based on interviews with employees, press releases, etc.
Remove the promotional language: we're not interested in what the company claims about itself or it's products, we're interested in what independent sources say about the company or it's products. qcne (talk) 09:55, 28 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Qcne,
Thank you for the detailed feedback I really appreciate it. I will try my best to remove all promotional language in the article. Here are some new sources I found, could you please share your opinion if I can use them, having in mind that I will remove all the sources you mentioned in the previous message:
https://fenix.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/downloadFile/1970719973966046/M.Sc.Thesis_Endayehu%20Gebeyehu%20Haile_%20Public.pdf

https://www.innoenergy.com/discover-innovative-solutions/customer-cases/transforming-tank-storage-into-large-scale-long-term-electricity-storage/
https://www.energystoragenl.nl/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/1.9b_1_Elestor_K-Wiebrand.pdf
I am open to hear your opinion. Thanks in advance! Lstr1 (talk) 11:14, 29 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Lstr1, your sources in order:
- discusses the technology, not the company.
- written by an intern at Elestor, not independent.
- written by an employee at Elestor, not independent.
- written by a partner of Elestor, not independent.
- written by an employee at Elestor, not independent.
So, I am not seeing the significant coverage in independent secondary sources that we need for this company to merit an article at this time. qcne (talk) 12:15, 30 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Qcne,
Thank you so much for this detailed feedback, I understand your point. I made my research again and found some new sources which I think align with the Wikipedia policy. I would like to hear your opinion before implementing them into the draft. Here they are:
https://www.witteveenbos.com/news/follow-up-to-energy-storage-pilot-project-in-emmeloord
https://www.witteveenbos.com/news/investigating-large-scale-affordable-energy-storage-solutions
https://www.witteveenbos.com/news/flextore-ii-testing-a-new-form-of-energy-storage
Important project for Elestor: https://www.hezelburcht.com/en/references/shell-tu-delft-partners-melody/
This looks like independent source as well: https://solarimpulse.com/companies/elestor-b-v#
If I can also go one step back, in the previous message you shared your opinion for some of the sources can I accept that the rest, which are not mentioned, are enough reliable and I can keep them in the article?
Thank you one more time for your cooperation. I highly appreciate your feedback:)
Best Regards, Lstr1 (talk) 08:46, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi again @Lstr1,
The witteveenbos sources are troublesome as they partnered with Elestor; that means the sources still are not independent.
hezelburcht is only a brief mention.
solarimpulse is just a database listing.
To be clear: the sources you have shown me are all reliable and could be used to cite certain parts of the draft: but we've not actually established notability yet. Think of notability as "noted in secondary sources". So far none of your sources have been secondary / independent, so we still haven't established "notability" for the company. Without notability, we can't have a viable article.
It might just be the company isn't yet notable by our standards. Perhaps park the draft and wait for some more independent coverage to come out? As I said, we're looking for totally independent sources that devote significant coverage to the company through the use of independent analysis, discussion, debate commentary, criticism, etc: no relation to the company or it's employees. That means not written by interns, not interviews with the CEO, not written by business partners, etc. qcne (talk) 13:25, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi Qcne,
I understand your point and agree with that. Unfortunately, I have to say that for now Elestor is not notable by your standards. It's a shame that all the work will not be worth it at the end, but it is what it is.
I would like just to let you know that there are pages in Wikipedia where the sources shouldn't be notable because they include employee interviews or other "promotional" information but the articles exist and are online. Here are some link which you can take a look on:
Ballard Power Systems - Wikipedia
UniEnergy Technologies
NEG Micon
CS Wind
I will save my draft somewhere outside of Wikipedia and will try to upload it again after some time. Do I have to do something in Wikipedia or I can leave it like it is?
Best wishes and thank you for the cooperation! Your feedbacks were really valuable! Lstr1 (talk) 09:39, 9 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

It's fine, although I would like to know your reasoning for reverting it. QuicoleJR (talk) 16:06, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@QuicoleJR User sandboxes / draftspace should generally be a bit more lenient on CSD - that draft, though promotional in tone, wasn't unambiguously promotional imho and wasn't in Mainspace. qcne (talk) 16:17, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
As an RFC reviewer, I review a lot of promotional drafts. That one passes the smell test and appears to be a description of the performer. I see some that are worse. As Qcne says, we are generally lenient with drafts, because what is important is that they not get into article space. I would prefer to tag them and leave them alone. Hi @Qcne,

A few weeks ago, you helped me with my SmarterMail draft, and I just wanted to say thank you. I’m worried my account might get deleted or banned soon, but before that happens, I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated your kindness and help. It’s surprising how cruel some users can be, but you were the opposite, and that meant a lot to me. 😊

I hope all is well with you in England! It’s definitely on my list of places to visit someday.

Take care! Weasleyrian (talk) 17:58, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) accounts cannot be deleted and why would you think you were going to be banned soon? Theroadislong (talk) 18:02, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
(talk page stalker) @Weasleyrian: I must say the thought of blocking you did cross my mind earlier, but I think I won't now, after all you've been through with these drafts (although I can't of course speak for other admins here). Your prof really set you up to fail with such an assignment, and that is unfortunate. If I were you, I'd report back that the mission was impossible, but you've had a crash course in Wikipedia concepts such as notability, and they should give you an 'A' grade for sheer effort. :) My advice, furthermore, would be to drop this subject now, and edit on something less 'problematic', and you should be fine. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 18:06, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@DoubleGrazing@Theroadislong: While I appreciate the feedback, this discussion is meant to be between @Qcne and I. Your continued involvement comes across as trolling or hounding, which borders on harassment as outlined in Wikipedia's harassment policy. Weasleyrian (talk) 18:59, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Weasleyrian: forget that I said anything. Should have realised I was intruding. My bad. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 20:02, 3 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Why do all the cool people stalk my talk page.
@Weasleyrian I think you're in a difficult position and I commend you for trying really hard with this draft and I'm sorry its been a pretty crappy first experience to Wikipedia editing.
I've just had a read of the new AfC help desk thread - if I was the user who you posted those seven new sources to and got no response: then really sorry, sometimes I can miss notifications and real life gets in the way. I also don't have access to those books or thesis, and can't see a way to view them online, so am unable to verify (the pcmag.com and networkworld sources are online and would both work as a source, IMHO).
But, yes, I do agree its probably best to find a new piece of software to write on that you can without a doubt prove meets WP:NSOFTWARE. Or alternatively bonk your prof. over the head for tasking you such a difficult assignment.
