Request on 17:23:41, 5 September 2017 for assistance on AfC submission by Chefarsts

Hi. I would like to refer to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Verifiability#Access_to_sources While I can understand that it is not easy to verify the source, it's not impossible. The mentioned statutes are, even if their title might be misleading, not self-written, and published in the university's library. Additionally, other web sources, such as http://www.riga.diplo.de/Vertretung/riga/de/01-Willkommen-in-Lettland/Aktuelles__aus__Lettland__und__Touristisches/AktuellesausLettland/AktuellesausLettland.html and http://www.rsu.lv/eng/study-here/upon-arrival/student-life/student-organisations/deutsche-studenten-im-ausland support that claim.

Chefarsts (talk) 17:23, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Chefarsts: I don't think I was questioning the verifiability of the references. In order for there to be an article on Wikipedia, there must be an assertion of importance to start with and, if the article is to remain, a substantiation of notability. It is only once we are over that hurdle that these other considerations come into play. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 17:39, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

@Maenowandstephane: Files that you place on Wikpedia inappropriately will certainly be deleted. You are posting material which is copied from other websites or publications and posting material on your user talk page which is not in support of the purposes of Wikipedia. If you continue to misunderstand why your files are being deleted, your ability to edit on Wikipedia may be blocked. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 11:23, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

For future reference

Re. [1], per WP:BLANKING: "A number of important matters may not be removed by the user—they are part of the wider community's processes: (e.g.) Declined unblock requests regarding a currently active block" (my emphasis). A subtle but significant difference. Just FYI. Take care! — fortunavelut luna 10:27, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi: thanks for letting me know the letter of the law. I thought I had several times seen users' blanking of their block notices reverted, but apparently this was either my mistaken impression or a common, but not exactly correct, convention. I shall not attempt to do this again. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 10:48, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
Due diligence: I've also now read the 2014 discussion where this was hashed out in some detail. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 11:16, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for sticking with me to the very end in order to publish my article Laytongku. I have also been guided wonderfully in order to place a photo on the page. Since I was kicked out of the Teahouse I wonder if I dare post a thank you to all those editors/administrators who offered me help since John from Ideligon wrote that I should never post there again.Palukiwa (talk) 10:55, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

@Palukiwa: Probably would be best to thank them individually on their talk pages, as you did with me. I'm glad this situation worked out as well as it did, even if there's far less about Laytongku in the article than you would like for there to be. I don't think you are banned forever from the Teahouse, but probably best not to post there again about this article for a while. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 11:21, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

@Maierc1982: Please do not resubmit until you have addressed the notability and citations problems that the current draft has. If you don't improve the draft, it will just be declined again. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 02:27, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Thank you very much for reviewing my User page!

A barnstar for you!

  The Original Barnstar
Thank you very much for your help and suggestions. My article that I revised in accordance with your suggestions has been waiting for evaluation for more than 3 weeks. I would be thankful to you if you do something if possible.

Best wishes, Ercan Avciercan (talk) 23:54, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Your response to my Derek Nguyen draft page

Thanks so much for your prompt and constructive response. I'm a complete newbie at this, so I have many questions, but formost are these three:

There is plenty of journalism about Nguyen as a filmmaker, but it's primarily in Vietnamese. Can it be referenced, or should I stick to English-language sources?

An American remake of the film is in the negotiation phase—should that be mentioned now, or should I wait until the project is further along?

You refer to a lack of sourced biographical information. I think I've sourced his career achievements pretty well—are you referring to his early life and education?

Thanks again for your help.

Kenfeisel (talk) 15:08, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

@Kenfeisel: yes, you can use non-English sources if there is no suitable English source. It will likely reduce the number of reviewers who can confidently review your submission, but it's definitely allowed.
In general, if a project has not yet reached the stage for principal photography (or whatever they call the actual shooting these days), it's not what WP considers noteworthy, unless there's something particularly notorious about it that gets it written up a lot in the press.
As for biographical details, yes, exactly, there need to be citations for early life, education, etc or we just can't include it here.
Good luck with your project, it seems like you are off to a good start. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 15:16, 18 September 2017 (UTC)

How to modify Username Presentation?

Hi! — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs), Hi! There! I would like to use my ID Signature like this: — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs). I would like to get it automatically, when I may use 4 Tildes ~ ~ ~ ~ (Willy-nilly (talk) 08:25, 27 September 2017 (UTC)). Please, let me how to do so. --- Willy-nilly (talk) 08:25, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi backatcha, Willy-nilly. I got the basic idea for my signature presentation from Oshwah. The general documentation for this is at WP:SIGNATURE. You'll find the place to enter your changes on your Preferences page; under "User profile" there's a section titled "Signature". I used a color selector widget to find a couple of colors that had a little contrast but were still in the same general range as the basic "green" I was after, then entered their color numbers into the signature field, along with the other markup. Be aware that you can get carried away with signature modifications and if the result is too long, it will get truncated at somewhere around 256 characters. Mine is pretty close to the limit. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 13:47, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

06:57:07, 21 September 2017 review of submission by Shilpi Ganguly

I am not requesting a re-review. But the reviewer Jmcgnh left a comment that she/he has done some heavy copy-edit on my draft. But I cannot identify where the edited draft is. It would be helpful to have a look at it. Shilpi Ganguly (talk) 06:57, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

In addition to the copy edit and review, I merged the submission into the already existing draft, leaving a redirect at the old location. You can find the latest version of the draft at Draft:Ananth Narayanan, but it should have worked just as well to click on the link User:Shilpi Ganguly/sandbox. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:13, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
@Shilpi Ganguly: Were you still unable to find the page? I don't see that you've made any changes since then, or any edits on WP anywhere that I can see since you posted here. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 14:02, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
