History
editBased in Great Britain
editMiss Tourism World was initially established as an international beauty pageant in 1991 in Great Britain. The organization was acquired by Mr. David Singh in 2008. Due to various factors, the pageant was not held in the following years: 1993, 1996, 1998–1999, 2004, 2006, 2008–2011, 2016–2017, and 2020–2021.[1]
During the most recent edition of MTW, Erina Hanawa from Japan was crowned Miss Tourism World 2022 on December 10 in Vĩnh Phúc province, Vietnam. This makes her the second Japanese woman to win the title.[2]
Based in China
editIn 2009, the Miss Tourism Queen International pageant was established in China. Over the years, it has undergone several name changes, including Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International (2011–2010), Miss City Tourism Champion (2016), Miss Tourism World - Global (2017–2019, 2023), and Miss Tourism World - Intercontinental (2019).
The most recent competition, Miss Tourism World - Global 2023, was held in Quanzhou, China, on December 22. The title of Miss Tourism World - Global 2023 was awarded to Karolína Gorylová from the Czech Republic.[3]
Background
editMiss Tourism and the Miss Tourism World Tour organize annual competitions aimed at promoting tourism internationally. The Miss Tourism World Organization gathers contestants and titleholders from different countries in a selected host nation to participate in Miss Tourism World, a longstanding tourism-focused pageant. Participants create tourism videos that are presented during the final event to highlight destinations and support tourism promotion.[4]
The Miss Tourism World Organization focuses on promoting tourism through its contestants. The Miss Tourism World Final provides international exposure for the host country, aiming to attract tourists, generate foreign revenue, and support local communities by highlighting the country as a travel destination.[5]
Format
editThe Miss Tourism World pageant includes titles such as Miss Tourism World Africa, Asia, Americas, Europe, and Oceania. These continental titles provide a platform for host countries to present their cultural and tourism concepts to a broader audience, including the youth.[6]
Contestants participate in segments such as evening gown, swimsuit, and national costume presentations. The Miss Tourism World pageant has been hosted across four continents, allowing participants to compete for both the overall title and their respective continental crowns. The national costume segment is mandatory, with the Best National Costume Award presented to one contestant during the finale.[7]
