English: A pamphlet for the 1969/1970 New Year's cruise onboard SS United States. As her operator, United States Lines (USL), became in need of cash, United States began offering cruises to exotic locations. This shift came after USL received permission to do so from the US Government, abandoning the ship's original purpose of trans-Atlantic voyages. USL's economic instability was ultimately caused by the popularity of jet aircraft as the best way to travel the Atlantic.
