I am giving you this Barnstar for your excellent and brilliant work in Wikipedia in the Kerala esp. Trivandrum related topics.

Trivandrum

Sameel beat me to your barnstar. :(
I wasnt able to participate in any of the peer reviews. There are some problems with the article that needs to be addressed on a war-footing now, as it is in FAC. I feel guilty of pointing these out at this crucial hour. But please take care of them. The "demographics" section is too short, and needs development. The etymology section needs references. There is no article on the Ay kingdom. While the history section has no pictures, the transport section has too many. While in FAC, people may accuse you of writing only good things about the city. You need to add more negative details like traffic congestion, sex trade, smuggling, etc. All the places and names of buildings and airport (in short ALL proper nouns) should be wikilinked (internal linking). Also take care to see that they are wiki-linked only once, during their first appearence in the article. There should, ideally, be no references in the lead section. The lead section also needs to be expanded to atleast three paragraphs per WP:LEAD, considering the article's size. There is some sentences that praise the city a bit too much. Also, for help on copyediting, see Tony's copyediting guide.-- thunderboltz(Deepu) 07:30, 1 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rajith, the "Strategic Importance" section is unnecessary in the article. It needs to be merged with other sections. For example, the part on medicines and ayurveda can me reworded and added into the Economy section, saying tourism is a prominent income generator in the city. The air link to maldives can be added after rewording into the transport section. The aero space stuff can also be likewise moved either to transport or economy sections with a little bit of creative thinking.
Some other points
  • Thiruvananthapuram also has Kerala's first International school — The Trivandrum International School. - needs ref
  • kV and other units are over wikified. It needs to be wikified just once, where it first appears.
  • You should use non breaking space ( ) to separate numbers from their units.
  • Potential future growth areas include Tourism (medical and eco-tourism), civil aviation and air-cargo, commercial activity through upcoming port (at Vizhinjam),[18] software development parks, media and the arts, rubber-based industries, etc. Much of this high potential growth would depend on the investment and trade union reforms of the government of Kerala.—is WP:OR, as it is only an opinion.
  • There are about 900 schools in Thiruvananthapuram district - unnecessary. This article should discuss ONLY the stuff within the corporation limits of TVM. Important things in the suburbs should be written as "in the outskirts of the city".
More later. Keep humoring the comments on the FAC. --thunderboltz(Deepu) 15:07, 6 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Congrats

Congrats for getting Thiruvananthapuram article nominated for Featured Status. Great work Rajith.

Under Economy subheading, its mentioned that Thejaswini is to be completed by October 2006 and 400,000 ft² TCS Peepul Park by May 2006 which it seems is wrong. Try to update with right deadlines.

Raith, this is not a revert war; this is a content dispute. pls see my discussion in culutre page.If you want to build consensus, then the edit in question has to be deleted and only reinstated only after the discussion; & not the other way around; So pls revert it to previous version-Regards-Bharatveer 07:28, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Classification

I have classified the page list of people from kerala. I think its the betterway to search and findout informations.Tks for adding balamani amma.I like her poetry. It contains the smell of sweet motherhood. Best wishes to u and ur friends. Nileena joseph 03:52, 7 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

TVM FAC

Sorry if those late comments created too much trouble. What happened was that I had removed most of the Kerala articles from my watchlist as I am concentrating in some other sections, and hadn't noticed the FAC. I noticed it only because of an interesting comment that appeared in Deepu's page last Friday. Tintin (talk) 08:46, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pls see that article.-Bharatveer 04:34, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Trivandrum International Airport

As per your request on my talk page, the article for Trivandrum International Airport has been renamed and updated to show the correct name, with a reference its official AAI page. Thanks for the information. Zyxw 13:31, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pronunciation of Thiruvananthapuram

From one of your edit summary on the Thiruvananthapuram page I guess you modified the IPA transcript for the name Thiruvananthapuram. Please note that the audible pronunciation and IPA transcript do not correspond in this case. As I leave this message, the IPA transcript is /tĭr'ūvənŭn'təpur'əm/. The audible pronunciation has two sounds approximate to /θ/. Although /θ/ doesn't precisely render the relevant Malayalam phoneme, it could serve as a broad transcription as explained on Wikipedia:Manual of Style (pronunciation) page. Substitution of /t/ with /θ/ is not correct. Further the occurrence of /ŭ/ in the transcription is patently wrong. It should be /ʌ̟/. The I-breve in the first syllable is also unncessary, I feel. I don't need to say that stress marks are given at ridiculously wrong places. I can correct it, if you have no objection. Kundan After Sundown 14:45, 12 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I made a mistake above. I didn't mean "substitution of /t/ with /θ/ is not correct". I meant exactly the opposite. Kundan After Sundown 11:35, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I fail to understand your reply. Those who can't read IPA script needn't read it. There is the audio file. Digestability is no reason to give palpable error. In fact, the form at issue is not "simple phonetics" as you say and it has been made complicated with unnecessary breve and misplaced stress marks. The transcription you gave on my page (/ˈθiɹʊvanan'θapˌʊɹam/) is the form that should be given. Kundan After Sundown 11:35, 13 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

I think you did a good work, but the article fell short as you didn't have much experience. The article is lacking, but not much. As I said in the SAC, it is a good copyedit and a couple of citations away from getting selected. FAC is still a far cry, but we give critical reviews early so that once the things start rolling, it eventually become a featured article. I will give a suggestion. Work on one problem at a time. This will make you end up with great results without stressing too much. Try asking for help from other editors. I can only help after a week as I will be out-of-station. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 16:40, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Trivandrum

Hello. There are some basic problems with the article. 2 main issues - 1) the article needs to be toned down a bit to make it neutral and 2) references need to be checked more rigorously. Besides that, the prose can be improved. To start with, I would like to ask you to take a look at Ahmedabad, Kolkatta or Kochi (India). All these are already FAs and the article should reach that level of detail. Take a look at guidelines given at Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Cities. The Strategic Importance needs to go. Whatever information is in it needs to be distributed over other sections.

So starting with the lead - There are a lot of examples of unknowingly including text which glorifies the city, and hence makes the article un-encyclopedic. Examples of such text are "lovely beach side city", "political nerve centre", "major academic hub", "premier educational institutions", "first Information technology park of its kind", "home to many of the world's leading technology companies". Now this is just the lead. The lead must be worked upon. Try and do it yourself. If not, then I will help you do it. I am sort of busy till monday, after which I can devote time to the article. - Aksi_great (talk) 18:53, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I believe that your unexplained removal of clean-up tag was not proper. You may first check it for sylistic inconsistency. Kundan After Sundown 14:22, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Please remove this fraudulent and hence unreliable website [1] you added refernce to. Kundan After Sundown 16:57, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
That was not a website of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and it is gone. You could have looked closely at the fine print. Sorry that I have to undo your work.Kundan After Sundown 17:11, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
"TourismInIndia.com was the original the Official Website of the Ministry of Tourism, designed and developed by Inet India Solutions Pvt. Ltd. and was discontinued." It is fraudulent no doubt and I see that it can deceive inexperienced eyes. It says that that it is the original website, more than enough to suspect. Also see that there is no reference to any site of tourism ministry on [2] Kundan After Sundown 17:36, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
You look like a newbie in the Web to be tempted by this deceitful site. Original (like several) is a word very often misunderstood by Indians. I am afraid you may have been misled to believe it due to this wrong notion. There is not a single link on that website to suggest that it is the Tourism Ministry's. The site doesn't claim that it is run by Government of India. Google search engine has not learnt to think yet. Indian official sites recently have changed to .in suffix. Please don't refer to it in the article until you verify it. If my negative attitude helps improve the article, why should you complain?

Hi there. Nice work with the lead. You need to add references to 2 sentences. First, for the Mahatma Gandhi quote, and 2nd for the "first of its kind" sentence. I hope you know how to add references. I usually use footnotes. It would also be nice if you could create an stub on Kazhakoottam. Moving on to the origin of name - again there are no sources. You may find some news sources on the net about the name change in english from trivandrum. The last sentence needs references, else it should be removed. - Aksi_great (talk) 09:29, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Brilliant work on the article. Good to see that you incorporated my comments too. I have supported the Selected Article candidature now. I think you can prepare other Tvm related articles created by you such as History of Thiruvananthapuram, Economy of Thiruvananthapuram, etc also for the WP:SA. Anyways, good to see your dedication. Why dont you start contributing towards other topics also; apart from Tvm? Thank you, --Samaleks 20:18, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The Indian Roadways map is a featured image, one amongst the few best road maps in the world. Still, there is more work to be done. Fort Kochi

Hello Rajithmohan,

wikitravel has nothing to do with wikipedia. It became a commercial website. If you put informations in this website it will be used for commercial purose.

please look at:

http://wikitravel.org/de/Hauptseite "Seit dem 20. April 2006 ist das Unternehmen "internetbrands" Inhaber dieser Webseite, die nun auch zu kommerziellen Zwecken genutzt wird"

This means in English: "Since the April 20th 2006 the company "Internetbrands" is the owner of this website (Wikitravel), which is now also used for commercial purpose."

You could't know this. It is not menioned on the first page of the English Website of Wikitravel, only at the German one.

Regards Doris

Kochi UA

Hi Rajith! Hope all is well. The reason I removed the UA mask on the Kerala page, is because it makes little sense in having it there. The mask is redundant, actually. It is like saying : Largest city = TVM city ; or largest district = Idduki district (when we can do with: largest city=TVM and largest district = idduki). I hope you get the idea. Ping me if there is some confusion or if you disagree with me. Regards,--thunderboltz(Deepu) 14:50, 22 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
