Karen Civil is an Haitian-American entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist. Karen was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She realized the power of the Internet early on, and by high school, had already launched popular fan sites for actor JD Williams and The Backstreet Boys. Upon completing Elizabeth High School, she attended Union County College in New Jersey and earned Associate of Arts & Communication, in Radio.

Career

Carol's Daughter, Forbes, New Era, and Beats by Dre and more have all recognized her position as the digital realm[1][2][3][4][5]. The MTV named her one of 2010's Hip Hop MVP's[6] and she has been featured in publications such as XXL Magazine, The Source, Hype Hair, Black Enterprise, and Forbes[7][8][9]. With Always Civil Enterprise, she continues to help elevate the careers of some of today's biggest name such as Mary J. Blige, Young Jeezy, YG, and Nipsey Hussle[10][11][12]. Also she has her time and efforts to various charitable causes including the Live Civil school and playground in her home country it Haiti. To further build awareness of the Live Civil brand and to provide tools for empowerment, she recently published her first book, Be You & Live Civil: Tools for Unlocking Your Potential & Living Your Purpose[13][14][15]

Karen's next encounter with the entertainment business came as an intern for New York City's HOT 97[3][16]. As an intern for legendary hiphop personality DJ Funkmaster Flex[12], she continued focus on incorporating digital and social media into entertainment. In 2010, she was contacted by Lil Wayne's[5] Young Money Entertainment imprint. In the midst of legal issues, Wayne appointed her to create a way to allow him to connect with fans.

In 2016, Karen become an Associate Producer of The Last Ride Documentary film about Kyrell "Rell" Tyrel and bike culture[17].

Motivational Speaker

Karen speaks as a host for Hillary Clinton sponsored Democratic rallies along with numerous universities around the country, major companies like BET, and women empowerment conferences and panels[18][19].

Philanthropy

Live Civil Initiatives: Live Civil Playground. To celebrate her 30th birthday, she decided to bring to others. She partnered with Sow a Seed – a non­profit, volunteer­ based organization that supports orphanages with a special focus on the welfare of Haiti’s children – to break the ground on the first Live Civil Playground.

The Live Civil Playground will be home to ten interactive games, offering elementary math concepts built from reused tires in a sandbox structure. There will be an area dedicated to story time, allowing for plays and lectures as well as an area with interactive musical instruments and educational games to help teach children strategy building and problem ­solving.

Champions of Change: On September 15, 2015, Karen Civil was a guest speaker at The White House, where she delivered a heartfelt message for their ‘Champions of Change’ event. The event honored eleven young women as Champions of Change for their courage and contributions to their communities. The event inspired young girls and women to recognize their potential for leadership, as educators, advocates, peer ­mentors, artists and entrepreneurs. The event encouraged young girls and women to achieve their full potential and discussed how they can become leaders in their own way, and in their own style.

Live Civil Christmas Giveaway: Karen Civil teamed up with Grammy Award winning artist, Lil Wayne, to brighten up the holiday season for over 500 students in Haiti. The Christmas celebration was a partnership with Live Civil and included sponsors Trukfit, Scholastic Corporation & L’union Suite.
