The game would end with a controversial win. After an illegal shift was called against LSU, the Tigers would go on to score what was initially called a touchdown before being ruled to have occured after the clock had run out.
Earlier in the same drive, the Tigers had trouble getting their second timeout recognised by the officiating crew with LSU also having a play within the last two minutes being deemed inbounds and with the clock running after a Tigers player hit the out of bounds line with their foot.
