Maxwell Emmett "Pat" Buttram was an American actor and writer, who voiced many characters for Disney, including Napoleon in The Aristocats, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood, Luke the Swamp Mouse in The Rescuers, Chief the old Irish Wolfhound in The Fox and the Hound, Bullet 1 in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and the Possum Park Emcee in A Goofy Movie. He also hosted The Mouse Factory episode "Bullfighting to Bullfrogs".

Buttram was born in Addison, Alabama, where he graduated from Mortimer Jordan High School, then located in Morris, Alabama before later entering Birmingham-Southern College to study for the Methodist ministry. He performed in college plays and on a local radio station along with his own program. He went to Hollywood in the 1940s and became a sidekick to Roy Rogers before partnering with Gene Autry in more than 40 films and over 100 episodes of The Gene Autry Show. Outside of Autry film collaborations, Buttram appeared in other films, such as Roustabout, The Hanged Man, Wild in the Country, and Back to the Future: Part III.

He also was well-known for playing Mr. Haney the salesman in the CBS sitcom Green Acres, which also starred Eva Gabor. His other television credits included The Real McCoys, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, The Munsters, Petticoat Junction, Alias Smith and Jones, Adam-12, Emergency!, The Dukes of Hazzard, Garfield and Friends, Who's the Boss?, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Rugrats.

On January 8, 1994, Buttram died of kidney failure at age 78 at a hospital in Los Angeles, California. He was buried in Alabama next to Maxwell Chapel, a church organized by his grandparents in 1916, and was survived by his daughter Kerry Buttram-Galgano and two granddaughters. Kerry Buttram-Galgano died of cancer in 2007 and, in turn, was survived by her two daughters Natalie "Nat" (b. 1985) and Angel "Angie" (b. 1989).
