Endurance is a stat in Dark Souls.
Description[]
Investing in Endurance increases maximum stamina, equipment load, and bleed resistance. In terms of equipment load, Endurance softcaps at 40. It is not usually worth going over this softcap.
Stamina[]
Stamina is represented by the green bar on the top left corner of the screen. One large chunk of the bar is approximately 28.57 stamina. Actions such as dashing and attacking reduce stamina which after a brief pause begins regenerating. If the player runs out of stamina, they temporarily cannot attack or dash.
If a character is blocking and a blow exceeds the amount of stamina needed to absorb the damage, that character is then staggered, left wide open, and takes the excess damage. This mechanic is dependent on stability.
Stamina is capped at 160, which is reached at level 40 endurance; further levels do not increase stamina. Stamina can also be increased by the Ring of Favor and Protection, even if the 40 endurance cap has been reached.
Stamina Regeneration Rate[]
Stamina has a base regeneration rate for all players, regardless of soul level or stats: 45 stamina per second. The regeneration rate can be increased passively while wearing the Mask of the Child, Grass Crest Shield, Cloranthy Ring, consuming a Green Blossom, or casting Power Within. Green blossoms and Power Within do not stack, but all other effects will stack with each other.
Regeneration rate is lowered by 80% while the player has his/her guard up or while climbing a ladder. Wearing heavy armor pieces reduces this regeneration rate by 1-2 stamina per second. If the player is heavily burdened (more than 50%), then stamina will regenerate 20% slowed. If the player is over-burdened, the penalty is 30% instead.
Equipment Load[]
Equipment load determines how much equipment the player can equip before being affected by movement penalties. The softcap for endurance is 40 in terms of carry weight. The Mask of the Father, Havel's Ring, and Ring of Favor and Protection also improve equipment load. Though Mask of the Father is so heavy it usually cancels out its own effect.
- When at 25% of equip load or below the player sprint and walk speed will be fast, rolls will be categorized as Fast Rolls.
- When at 26% - 50% of equip load player Sprint and walk speed will be reduced to medium, rolls will be categorized as Medium Rolls.
- When at 51% - 100% of equip load player sprint and walk speed will be reduced to slow, rolls will be categorized as Slow or Fat Rolls. Stamina regen will be reduced by 20%
- When above 100% of equip load player will become unable to sprint and will instead "poop walk", player will be unable to roll. Stamina regeneration will be reduced by 30%
It is generally advised to keep equipment load at or below 25% in order to stay nimble. For more information roll types visit the Rolling page.
