Summary
[edit]DescriptionLickey Bank down mineral geograph-3960836-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: Down mineral cautiously descending Lickey Bank, 1957. View NE from the bridge over B4096 Hewell Lane, towards Blackwell up the notorious 1-in-37 bank from Bromsgrove on the ex-Midland Bristol - Birmingham main line. All the brakes on the wagons of this Class H coal train (probably Washwood Heath to Westerleigh) would have been pinned down during a stop at Blackwell, and would be released during another stop at Bromsgrove: otherwise the loose-coupled train would have ended up in disaster. The Stanier 8F 2-8-0 is No. 48700 was built at the SR Brighton Works in 1944 and lasted until 5/68 - almost the End of Steam. |
