| Description |
English: This concrete bridge was built in 1904 in Muskego, Wisconsin by the Milwaukee Light, Heat and Traction Company (MLH&T). That company was a predecessor to The Milwaukee Electric Railway and Light Company (TMER&L), a well-known interurban railway and power utility in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. The company later became Wisconsin Electric Power Company (WEPCO) and is now We Energies.
This small bridge is located just east of Pioneer Drive, and was located just east of the Muskego Centre station, on the Hales Corners/St. Martins to East Troy line. Through service was discontinued on this line in 1929, although interurban service on other parts of the TMER&L system continued into the 1950s, and a portion of the line in East Troy remains in tourist service as the East Troy Electric Railroad. Today a recreational trail follows the corridor in Muskego, and the bridge is easily accessible. The bridge carried the interuban railway tracks (and now the recreational trail) over Muskego Creek, a small stream connecting Little Muskego and Big Muskego Lakes. I believe this bridge is one of the few remaining bridges from the TMER&L interurban era in the Milwaukee area. Photo taken June 2023. Original key: IMG_5382 |
