Wiki Loves Birds campaign on Wikimedia Commons aims to capture and celebrating the stunning avian diversity of India, home to approximately 1,350 bird species. From vibrant local residents to rare and migratory visitors, these birds inhabit a variety of ecosystems, reflecting the country's rich natural heritage. By fostering awareness about bird conservation and honoring the legacies of renowned ornithologists Salim Ali and K.K. Neelakandan, Wiki Loves Birds India seeks to inspire communities to document, appreciate, and protect the beauty of India's birdlife for generations to come.

Scope

The photography campaign in Wikimedia commons encourages participants to capture high-quality images of various Bird species in India. The campaign aims to enrich Wikimedia Commons with freely licensed, high-quality images of Indian birds, while improving ornithology-related content across Indian language Wikipedias. This campaign also aim to add good quality photographs of Birds in Wikimedia articles.
