The image is in black and white. A group of hikers make their way down a steep, rocky path. In the foregound, a field of loose stones sits at the bottom of the path. There are large boulders at the bottom and on either side of the path. A label on the back of the image identifies two people in the group, one of which is a woman near the bottom center of the photo carefully climbing over a rock with the assistance of another hiker, as Meta Lovejoy. The other woman, who is rounding a large boulder near the far center right of the image, is Mrs. Vourhees. The entire group is spread between the bottom and top of the image as they carefully make their way down.

A group of hikers, including Meta Lovejoy, come down the bluff to reach the crater of Halema‘uma‘u.
