English: A bonze plaque added to the lower portion of the front (north) elevation of the obelisk at Southend-on-Sea War Memorial in 1998 reading:

THIS PLAQUE IS DEDICATED TO / THE MEN AND WOMEN OF SOUTHEND / WHO HAVE SERVED THEIR COUNTRY / IN ALL WARS AND CONFLICTS / TO PRESERVE PEACE AND FREEDOM / FOR ALL. / WE WILL REMEMBER THEM / FUNDED BY SOUTHEND-ON-SEA BOROUGH COUNCIL / ON BEHALF OF THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION (SOUTHEND BRANCH) / 1998

Several (laminated) paper memorials have been placed partly behind the plaque, one to the bottom left is mostly visible and consists of a dedication: "WE DON'T REMEMBER / BUT WE WILL NEVER FORGET" surrounded by a rink of hand-drawn poppies.
