"Oh how I love a good gamble! But only when I win."
— Edward Richtofen after receiving a "good" effect from the QED.
The Quantum Entanglement Device,[1] often abbreviated to QED, is a secondary tactical grenade appearing on the Zombies map Moon. The device, often called Quantum Bomb by the players, was invented by Edward Richtofen.
When thrown, the QED is capable of creating many different outcomes. Upon toss, the player will spin the handle on the bottom once, and push it in. It can either "curse" or "bless" the player, with outcomes such as extra weapons, extra perks, more enemies, or a reset of points.
The Quantum Entanglement Device can only be obtained through the Mystery Box and takes up the player's secondary tactical grenade slot. It is one of two tactical Grenades on Moon, the other being the Gersh Device. The player cannot possess both; if the player attempts to take the Gersh Devices, any remaining QEDs will be swapped and vice versa.
The effect of the grenade is completely random, except in an instance where it is used against an Astronaut Zombie; if a QED goes off near one, it will always create an explosion capable of killing zombies.
Effects[]
Call of Duty: Black Ops[]
An explosion identical to that of the Astronaut Zombie. This is the default effect of the grenade. Will instantly kill Astronaut Zombie and Zombies within the blast radius.
Produces a Ray Gun/Porter's X2 Ray Gun that fires in a circle. This is capable of destroying glass windows and downing the player.
Produces a China Beach that fires in a circle. This is capable of destroying glass windows and downing the player.
Produces a fully automatic M72 Anarchy that fires in a circle. This is capable of destroying glass windows and downing the player.
Produces a fully automatic Kobra that fires in a circle. Can damage or down players if they stand close to it.
Produces a fully automatic SPAZ-24 that fires in a circle. Can damage or down players if they stand close to it.
Revives a downed player.
Spawns a Power-Up of any weapon obtainable through the mystery box, regular or Pack-a-Punched. Picking up the Power-Up trades the currently held weapon for the Power-Up weapon.
Spawns a Perk Bottle. All players gain a random perk.
Spawns an Anti-Perk Bottle. A red perk bottle that Zombies go after. If they pick it up, all players lose a random perk. Does not effect players once the The Big Bang Theory Easter Egg is complete.
Spawns a Bonus Points Power-Up. Can either give an individual player points or all players points.
Spawns an Anti-Bonus Points Power-Up. A red Bonus Points that Zombies go after. If they pick it up, all players lose a random amount of points or all of their points at once.
Spawns more Zombies by producing a whitish flare. On lower rounds, remaining Zombies start moving slightly faster. Later rounds, remaining Zombies sprint at players in a similar fashion to ones on Call of the Dead.
Pack-A-Punch any weapon currently held by the player(s).
Revert any Pack-A-Punched weapon currently held by the player(s) to its original version.
Gives all players a free perk when thrown at its respective Perk Machine.
Dud. The grenade produces no effect.
Recalls a current Excavator that is digging/destroying a current area of a map without needing to hack it with the Hacker by throwing it at the machine.
During The Big Bang Theory Easter Egg, moves the Vril Sphere near the "Samantha Says" computer, if the egg is in the blast radius.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III[]
Produces an explosion identical to that of the Astronaut Zombie. This is the default effect of the grenade. Will instantly kill Astronaut Zombie and Zombies within the blast radius.
Produces almost any weapon, including Pack-A-Punched variants, to fire in a circle. They are all capable of breaking windows or downing the player.

Gives all players a free perk.
Adds more zombie spawns to the total spawn number for the round.
Makes currently spawned zombies sprint or super sprint.

Trivia[]
If the Zombies run over a "blessing" given by the QED, the players lose it with no way to recover the power up. If the Zombies run over a "curse", however, then the negative effect will still happen as if a player grabbed the power up.
It is possible to obtain a QED from a random weapon drop.
Throwing a QED at the excavator will deactivate it in rare circumstances.
In Black ops 3, similar to the Gersh Device, the QEDs can not be Pack-a-Punched using the Crate Power GobbleGum.
In his quotes, Richtofen claims the QED was stolen from him and was used against him. Such incident is not known.
The name is a reference to quantum mechanics, which are reliant on randomness and unpredictability. Furthermore, quantum entanglement is a physical phenomenon lying in the heart of quantum physics. In simple words, entanglement correlates and links the fate of particles, meaning influencing one particle will also influence particles that are entangled to it.
