The BB-Daman Bakugaiden Victory Series, also shortened on official materials as BB-Daman Bakugaiden V, is the fifth and last toy series released during Bomberman B-Daman Bakugaiden, the second generation of B-Daman toys. It features toys representing characters from the second season of the Bomberman B-Daman Bakugaiden TV anime series, also titled BB-Daman Bakugaiden Victory. As the fifth Bakugaiden series, the "V" in the series's shortened name is regarded as standing for both the roman numeral V, and for the word "Victory".
Although often regarded as successive generations, the Bakugaiden and Super B-Daman toy lines ran side by side with BB-Daman Bakugaiden Victory roughly coinciding with Super B-Daman's PI-EX Series.
Series Overview[]
Like its predecessor Bakugaiden IV, BB-Daman Bakugaiden V is a large series with multiple sub-sections:
- Nineteen regular release model-kit-style marble-shooting mecha with VA-## product numbers.
- Eight larger-scale shooting toys split between DX ping-pong ball-shooting mecha and full-size Bomberman B-Daman figures representing the anime hero characters in their iconic armour, with B-## product numbers.
- Eight releases in the B-Daman Pocket subline of small-scale static soft vinyl representations of various mecha from the series, each built around a simple plastic core that can shoot small 11mm metal balls, with VP-## product numbers.
The main line of VA-## kits presents another major change of scale and design compared to Bakugaiden III and IV, with the small pilot figures sized up to around 3cm in height and no longer featuring shooting functionality, with only an aesthetic clear plastic "jewel" in their abdomen rather than a functional core. Instead, each pilot figure features a removable helmet and the ability to transform into the head of their respective mecha, with the figure riding their machine's "Ride Mode" as a vehicle and combining with the machine to act as its head in its "Armor Mode". This series also introduced a systematized body structure like that of later B-Daman series, with each mecha being built around a core marble shooter with hardpoints for interchangeable lower body, upper body, and head pieces. The line also continued to feature various cores with diverse shooting functionality, with particular standouts being the use of an alternate 11mm metal ball ammunition in addition to the standard 17mm marbles as well as the first appearance of a cartridge-based system in B-Daman history. Transformation and combination also remain as core mechanical themes, with the main hero team and main villain team each able to combine their mecha into a larger form much like the hero and villain teams of Bakugaiden IV.
The larger-scale VB-## toy series repeats the style of the Bakugaiden IV B-## subline, with character figures using the taller Bakugaiden-style Bomberman body and motorized ping-pong ball launching DX B-Da Armors.
The VP-## "B-Daman Pocket" sub-line is a somewhat unusual entry to the series, being a return to the realm of small-scale, simple-functionality, collectible-style figures rather than the play-feature-heavy, gimmick-oriented toys that had defined B-Daman's development up to this point. This style would later be seen repeated several generations later with the release of the sixth generation, Metal B-Daman.
