Recent Events
A Storm of Swords
On his way to Oldstones to ransom his nephew Petyr Frey from the brotherhood without banners, Merrett Frey thinks that Petyr may be Lord of the Crossing one day, as Petyr's older brother Edwyn has no sons, and his other brother Black Walder only has bastards. However, when Merrett arrives at the rendezvous, he is shown Petyr's hanged body, and is himself hanged soon afterwards.[3]
Merrett also thinks that it is common knowledge in the Twins that Black Walder has slept with Edwyn's wife and Walda's mother, Janyce Hunter, among others.[3] Black Walder's illicit relationships may cast doubt over the paternity of many of the younger Freys, including Walda.
