House Toyne was a noble house from the stormlands. According to semi-canon sources, they blazoned their arms with a winged heart, black on gold, within a black bordure embattled.^[1] Their words are "Fly High, Fly Far".^[2]

History

Ser Terrence Toyne was a knight of the Kingsguard who fell in love with Bethany Bracken, a mistress of King Aegon IV Targaryen.^[3] In 178 AC, the king found them abed, and had Terrence executed by being dismembered piece by piece, which Bethany was forced to watch before she was also executed.^[4] Terrence's two brothers sought vengeance against the king, but he was defended by Kingsguard Aemon the Dragonknight, who slew the brothers but was also killed by them. These series of actions led to the downfall of House Toyne.^[5]

Simon Toyne was the leader of the Kingswood Brotherhood, an outlaw band that became such a nuisance that in 281 AC, King Aerys II Targaryen sent a detachment of soldiers led by notable members of the Kingsguard to destroy them.^[6] Ser Barristan Selmy killed Simon while rescuing Lady Jeyne Swann and her septa from the Brotherhood.^[7] Barristan also recalled that Simon attended a tourney at Storm's End prior to 278 AC as a mystery knight that was defeated by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen,^[8] though according to a semi-canon source, Barristan may have confused two separate tourneys.^[9]

The last known member of the family was Ser Myles Toyne, a captain-general of the exiled Golden Company in Essos.^[10] According to semi-canon sources, the house is currently extinct.^[1]
