Recent Events
A Storm of Swords
Garth is part of the great ranging which leaves Castle Black and the Shadow Tower in search of Benjen Stark and Mance Rayder. He is one of the survivors of the fight at the Fist.[2] Garth stays loyal to the Watch during the mutiny at Craster's Keep and was one of the few survivors of the ranging to make it all the way back to Castle Black.[3]
A Dance with Dragons
When Melisandre is burning "Mance Rayder" at Castle Black, Lord Commander Jon Snow has Garth, Donnel Hill, Ulmer, and Bearded Ben shoot arrows at the burning man to end his suffering.[4]
Jon sends three groups each comprising three rangers beyond the Wall to scout and explore. Garth Greyfeather, Black Jack Bulwer, and Hairy Hal are one such group.[5] They are caught and killed by the wildling known as the Weeper. Their heads are removed with their eyes plucked out and are placed on spears north of Castle Black.[6]
Theories
Some readers speculated that Garth and Alf of Runnymudd were in a same-sex relationship.
